Philosophy

The ‘Seppl-Stodel’ barn

In 2017 we devoted our time to a project that was very close to our heart: reviving our historical barn. As with everything else we tackle, we wanted to form a connection between tradition and the current zeitgeist.

This is why we left the outer facade unaltered with its adorning elements and window shutters. Other parts have been restructured, for example: We used the original working table that was already used in the 19th century to make the ‘monk roof tiles’ with local porphyry sand. The interior has been newly designed. For this we used natural spruce and also hemp, one of the oldest agricultural crops in the world. The room should make you feel safe and comfortable while the ornaments are symbols of local tradition: simple yet generous, no excessive flourishes but a delicate and pure embellishment.

Nature delivered our “building materials”: stone and wood - firm and durable, yet warm and comfortable all in one. We chose Sarentino porphyry for the floors and stucco works. Local larch wood has been used for doors, floors and for the furniture. Traditional craftsmanship, such as peacock quill embroidery for the door handles, form a connection to Sarentino culture.

What happens inside is what’s really interesting: Egon Heiss’ cooking academy and the makeup Trehs-House call the wonderful barn their home. There is also a modern room with top-notch equipment which is ideal for meetings and workshops.

The Seppl-Stodel has already been awarded different architectural honorings:

  • ‘Südtiroler Holzbau-Preis’ - a South Tyrolean prize for timber construction
  • AIT Award category gastronomy - 3rd place
  • best architects 19 - winner
  • german design award 2019: special mention - nominee
  • dezeen award - nominee

SECRETS OF A star-awarded cuisine

Bad Schörgau's COOKING ACADEMY

A five meter long, 22.000 kilogramme heavy, gray-green Sarentino porphyry cooking block is the centerpiece of the academy. Only the working surface has been flattened, the rest of the block is still raw stone.

The pattern of the hall is based on circles. Circles are the most stable geometric form and inspire a feeling of safety and protection. The circles overlap to form a wonderful star-shaped and three-dimensional ceiling.

The outer facade is based on the same geometrical principle, though lacking the “stars”. The rest of the interior has been lined with hand limed spruce wood and hemp.

The cooking area is connected to a big hall that can seat up to 100 guests. You can rent out this hall for both private and business events.

Not only cooking classes are held here: The hall is also frequently used for first-class concerts and cultural events.

At the place of origin

Trehs-House

Bad Schörgau is where the makeup brand Trehs was born. This is where the idea of making exclusive and high quality products out of the Sarentino mountain pine came to life. Then, together with partners from the valley, the brand Trehs was founded. Bad Schörgau is home to the brand since 2017.

The Trehs-House motto is "smell, see and most of all feel the connection between nature and cosmetics!"

You can take this feeling home with you thanks to the new Trehs-boutique.

Wednesday to Sunday, from 2.30pm to 6.30pm
